And the dawn itself is tended by an ancient living relic: the Lanternseed, a heart-bright seed that keeps the forest’s memories stitched together. When the Lanternseed cracks, something hungry wakes in the dark: Velvetwing, the Memory-Moth Queen, whose swarms feed on recollection until friends forget each other’s faces and whole clearings vanish from the mind. Panic spreads faster than winter. Lord Antler, a proud stag who believes order is the only antidote to fear, attempts to “save” the wood by controlling information—closing borders, hoarding light, and punishing any creature who asks too many questions. A small, unlikely band forms around a dangerous idea: Brackenheart can’t be saved by force, only by courage, cooperation, and a willingness to carry each other’s burdens—especially the painful ones. Pip, a harvest mouse who can hear the echo of stories in objects, becomes the Lanternbound’s spark. Bramble the red squirrel is their speed. Orrin the barred owl is their memory.
